"Lead. Change. Empower."
2007 Minnesota Self-Advocacy Conference
May 18 & 19, 2007
The Road to Freedom

Get
on the Road to Freedom!
You may be familiar with the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA), passed into law in 1990. The ADA promised to bring
down the walls of discrimination and provide equal access to the “American
Dream” for people with disabilities—from simple curb cuts in our sidewalks
to equal opportunity in education and employment.
The Road to Freedom Tour
is a year long cross-country bus tour to raise awareness about disability
rights. The tour will make a (detoured) stop at the
Lead. Change. Empower.
Conference in St. Paul on Saturday, May 19th ONLY!
Jim Ward, President of ADA Watch
and the National Coalition for Disability Rights, will make several
presentations about the ADA, the challenges still faced by people with
disabilities, and the need to keep the promise of the ADA alive in
Minnesota.
The “Bus Stop” at the St. Paul
self-advocacy conference features a multi-media display, several
presentations during the conference along with a short “keynote” during
lunch. The history exhibit features photography by Tom Olin, a social
documentarian who is famous for his disability photography. Tom Olin is part
of this historic Bus Tour and has agreed to take photographs and help us
understand the significance of disability history as we view the traveling
exhibit.
We extend a HUGE THANK YOU
to Tom Olin and Jim Ward for making a stop at our conference. They are
really making an effort to attend the conference and have juggled their
schedules considerably to make it happen. They will certainly be a highlight
of the event!
