ABOUT SELF-ADVOCACY RESOURCE NETWORKThanks for signing up for the ACT Self-Advocacy Resource Network. SARN is made up of people like you who want to receive and share information about promoting self-advocacy at home, in school, at work, and in the community. As a Network participant, you will receive weekly e-mail messages from ACT on various topics related to self-advocacy. Each e-mail will contain a brief overview of the topic, often with hot links to more in-depth information, group exercises, resources, and responses ACT has received from SARN readers on prior topics. We hope this Network will become an effective vehicle for sharing community organizing tactics, self-advocacy success stories, resources, and training and support strategies. We are especially interested in methods for improving outreach to racial and cultural minorities and for building alliances with groups outside the disability community that share similar goals of systems change. Self-advocacy is both a goal and a method in the civil rights movement of people with disabilities. We look forward to working and learning with you and others in the Self-Advocacy Resource Network, and hope this becomes an important tool in building a grass roots movement. Finally, be sure to share this resource with anyone within or beyond the disability community that is committed to promoting and supporting self-advocacy! Thanks.
