ACT Staff: Shared Leadership, Bottom to Top

Shared leadership is key to self-advocacy. The ACT staff walks the talk.

ACT has two co-directors, one of whom is a person with a disability. Our administrative director is a parent of a child with disabilities. We also have an organizer and an office assistant. And we have an office worker who has a developmental disability.

But of course these six people can’t do it all. So we hire other folks on short-term contracts. They help us build new programs, print materials, and write grants.

We listen
ACT board and staff are grassroots organizers. That means we listen to people. We hear what the groups’ needs are; then we work with the group to make a plan to address the needs.
