Where do our values come from? One place is from our families.
Alfreda Barringer is a social change activist from North Carolina. Here’s what she says about values:
“We were always taught to do right and to do well. I come from a family—a mother—who was very religious and very spiritual. I think that is the primary influence in the work that I do.”
Invite each person to talk about one value he or she received when he or she was young (could be a positive or negative value).
